my london diary

sept 2000

september had a number of festivals, some mainly commercial like the regent st festival, but also other events like the brick lane festival and a festival at paddington recreation ground.
more from regent st

i also dropped in at an event trying to show that science could be fun, based around the science museum and imperial college in south kensington.

more interesting for me was a car-free day event in brixton, which had music, dancing in the street and also some body-painting, ending up with a number of people wearing nothing but paint.

among the demonstrations was one against child abuse. or rather against child abusers, and demanding tougher action. perhaps understandable in this case in that a number of those marching had been victims of abuse in their own childhood.

another demonstration was an annual event demanding the legalisation of cannabis at speaker's corner, marble arch.
