Around Staines

Staines, Middlesex. 23 Dec 2012

North of the A308 bypass there was also plenty of water on the common

The pond at Shortwood Common is an SSSI

Del Monte House overlooks the Shortwood pond

Underpass below the Staines bypass at the Crooked Billet roundabout - the Crooked Billet was demolished

 a few years ago

This water works is probably the finest building left in Staines, a joint enterprise of the Three Rivers,
Grand Junction and West Middlesex water companies who built the first Staines reservoir

You go past it on the bypass just west of the Crooked Billet roundabout

This isn't the 'Staines Waterworks' of the poem by Peter Redgrove, which describes those on the Thames at Egham

(see also Kept Ephemera for the poem)
