Brixton Protests Gentrification & Evictions

Windrush Square, Brixton, London. Sat 6 Jul 2013

Preparing for the protest outside the Tate Library in Windrush Square

People brought out furniture for the protest

Lambeth council tried hard to make Windrush Square an inhospitable place, but left the large tree which

still provides some shade. The main banner 'Stop Evicting Brixton'

 'Decent Homes for People'

 'Homes Not Jails'

'Homes For All' and a board for one of the best-known local estate agents with SCUM written across it

Much of Rushcroft Road has already been done up

Outting up the banner on the long-closed public toilets in Windrush Square

Empty spaces and small scattered groups of chairs are meant to discourage people congregating here.
The  plaque commemorates the Sharpeville Massacre.
