Benefit Sanctions protest at Croydon Job Centre

Croydon Job Centre, Croydon, London. Fri 6 Feb 2015

A security man from the job centre jokes with the protesters but tells them they must stay on the pavement

The protesters talk with people passing and going in and out of the job centre. An unusually high proportion of

people took the flyers and many stopped to talk and show their support.

The area manager came out to talk with the protesters. He defended the use of sanctions, but some of what

said simply contradicted the facts. The high level of succesful appeals shows the system is not applied correctly

and food banks get most of their customers because of sanctions and delays caused by the job centres

with some whose benefits are stopped becoming so desperate they take their own lives. And while he denied that there were targets for staff, others who

worked in the system have given details of how these operate.

'Caution! Glass Awaiting Manifestation'. Perhaps the uprising of the oppressed?
