Yorkshire Dales holiday

Skipton, Kettlewell and Starbotton

We took the train to Skipton and paid a short visit to Tesco (behind me when I took this) before going on to the bus station

This bridge over the canal goes to the bus station

We got a bus from Skipton to Grassington, then had a 45 minute wait for the minibus to Kettlewell

 Kettlewell

and the bridge over the Beck.

It was raining the next morning, though not very hard, and we decided to go on the short walk to Starbotton

 and back.

We were staying in Dale House, with the white wall here - the first floor window was in our room

We took the Dales Way north beside the Rivre Wharfe

 Everywhere was pretty rain-soaked

and the distant hills were muted by the rain

at times the path went very close to the river

Lambs were feeding on the grass

I wasn't sure if the tractor was parked or abandoned in this corner of the field

most of the buildings in the fields are simply barns

the river meanders in the valley here

and there is a reed bed

another barn up the hill - and some bullocks

At Starbotton there is a footbridge (the war memorial in Kettlewell calls it Starbottom, a much better name.)

I think we were too early for the pub to be open

Most of the ancient village here was destroyed in the 1686 flood, and some houses date from shortly after that
