Yorkshire Dales holiday

Wensleydale waterfalls

The day looked bright and sunny from our bedroom window - but the forecast said it wouldn't last

Most of us decided to go to Bolton Castle - and on the way

we took a short diversion to visit the Cauldron Falls on Walden Beck a few yards from the centre to the village of West Burton

When Turner came to sketch there were delicate streams of clear water, but after all the recent rain it was more a discoloured raging torrent

 West Burton from the car

After eating lunch in the car in the rain at Bolton Castle we stopped on the way back at Aysgarth falls

There was a lot of water here - these are the upper falls

 and the middle falls

 and finally the lower falls

I think when I last visited you could easily walk across the river here.
