Wework stop victimising cleaners

Shoreditch, London. Wed 25 Sep 2019

Members of the Cleaners and Allied Independent Workers Union (CAIWU) protest outside 'Wework' offices in Shoreditch

Wework are a global office rental company. The cleaners in these offices are outsourced to cleaning company CCM

Five CAIWU members have been dismissed here in the past few months, with Wework staff members involved

Alberto Durango of the Cleaners and Allied Independent Workers Union. CAIWU says they have been victimised

because of their union activities and they had come to protest these unfair dismissals.

A man from a nearby business comes to ask the cleaners to stop making so much noise. He is told they need

to make a noise to get Wework to end its victimisation.

CCM say their contract with Wework means they have no choice but to move people away if Wework objects to them.

A passer-by stops to argue with the protests and gets quite angry, pushing some of them

and their are some angry arguments

It looks as if it might develop further

but after angry words from both men he backs off

Most people take leaflets and seem to support the workers who have been unfairly dismissed. Some stop to

 take pictures on their phones

Members of one of the companies renting an office in the building come out to support the cleaners

and they bring a large poster 'Justice for Wework/CCM Cleaners!'

Eventually police arrive and talk with Alberto Durango (at left) and a security man from Wework (right)

Police continue to talk to Alberto. He insists they have a right to protest, and that they will continue for some time.

 Eventually the pollice leave

and the protest continues, though some supporters are leaving to go to work
