Brixton

 First Child by Raymond Watson, a memorial to 116 children murdered by the Afrikaner police force in Soweto in 1976.

 This was the first public sculpture by a Black artist in the UK, commissioned in 1998 by the 198 Gallery

 Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church

 Brixton Road and Stockwell Park Walk. Children at Play (aka Zombie Children) on the back of the Brixton O2/Academy
building  was painted by Stephen Pusey in 1981-82 after the Brixton riots to depict racial harmony

 341-361 Brixton Road, mid 19th century, was grade II listed in 1974

 

 

 363-5 are also Grade II listed

 Brixton Road and Stockwell Rd. At left the former Quin & Axtens department store at. 414 – 426 Brixton Road
which was rebuilt in the 1920s. It was gutted in WW2.

 Bon Marché, Britains first purpose built department store in 1877. Its founder went bankrupt but the store

 continued in business with various owners until 1975. Since refurbished with almost all ground floor detail lost

The store was one of those that made Brixton one of the finest shopping locations in London.
