No to the coup in Bolivia

Parliament Square, London. Sat 30 Nov 2019

South Americans hold posters and the Wiphala flag representing the indigenous peoples of the Andes, in

Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador and parts of Argentina, Chile and Colombia. It has a particular significance in Bolivia

where the first president of indigenous descent, Evo Morales, established it in the constitution as a dual flag

 for the Bolivian nation.

'Evo Estamos Contigo' - Evo we're with you -'What happened in #Bolivia is a #Coup'

Bolivia has large lithium deposits, possibly the largest in the world, and Evo Morales wants the exploitation of

these to benefit the Bolivian people rather than the shareholders of US and other international companies and

would take them into public ownership. So the US and other Western countries have supported right-wing

groups in Bolivia to stir up protests following his successful re-election.

Micaela Bastidas, and ealry indigenous leader, led a rebellion against Spanish rule in Peru in 1781 and was executed by the Spanish

Right-wing groups led protests and riots which eventually forced Evo Morales to resign and seek refuge in Mexico

The fight lead a racist campaign of terror, killing over 30 people who protested against the coup

They attacked people who carried the Wiphala, tore it down from the government buildings all of which flew it

and burnt it. Police and military were shown cutting it off of their uniforms.

A decree made by the new right-wing government gave the military immunity from prosecution when 'controlling'

crowds of protesters, enabling them to kill and injure the protesters without any legal consequences.

Bolivia Solidarity Campaign banner - it celebrates the nationalisation of the oil industry.
