Earth Strike South London
Brixton, London. Sat 14 Dec 2019
People met around the stall on the corner of Coldharbour Lane and
Brixton Rd,
A passer-by takes a leaflet and talks with the protesters, before
buying one of their newspapers
Many of Earth Strike South London were Revolutionary Communist Group
members ane were selling their newspaper
'The Brazilian companies selling beef to McDonalds , Burger King &
Sainsbury's are Butchering the Amazon'
The march begins behind a banner 'Climate Change is a War, Of the
Rich against the Poor'
They go into Barclays Bank to talk with customers and hand out leaflets
Barclays supports fossil fuels and fracking
Staff tell the protesters they cannot protest inside the bank
but they take no notice
and continue to hank out leaflets and speak tot to the customers
Some people are happy to listen
and many take the leaflets
and some stop to talk with the protesters
After a few minutes the protesters walk out
and move to H&M next door where they talk about fast fashion.
Apparently the fashion industry is the second
largest producer of greenhouse gases and textile manufacture creates
huge amounts of water pollution.
A security man comes out from the shop and tells the protesters to
go away but they ignore him and continue
Police turn up and talk briefly. They are assured it is a peaceful
protest and soon go away
The protesters walk aong to the next shop which is ee, selling mobile
phones
Mobile phones and other similar electronic produces all need minerals
such as Coltan, and the fight for these
is behind the horrific wars that have taken place in the Congo region.
The protesters walk further along Brixton Road
Boots avoids paying taxes in the UK, cheats the NHS and sells palm
oil products made by clearing forests, destroying ecosystems
Sainsbury's sells many products that harm the environment and lead
to global warming, It gets beef that comes
from ranches made by burning the Amazon Forest, destroying ecosystems
and displacing indigenous tribes.
They protest outside Vodaphone, another company that avoids taxes
and who sells phones which use Coltan
and other minerals which result in wars. The RCG newpaper is 'Figth
Racism Fight Imperialism'
The protesters move on
and hold a brief protest in front of Brixton police station.
Among those killed by police in Brixton was Sean Rigg, beaten to death
inside the police station in 2008.
