University teachers march for Education

London. Wed 26 Feb 2020

The march gets a welcome from the Mayfair rooms on Fleet St

 and continues up Ludgate Hill

'Mind the Race Gender Pay Gap'

 XR Universities

It halts briefly outside the Bank of England before moving on a few yards

to halt for a protest outside the USS offices

The UCY say the USS have got their pension calculations wrong and their is no deficit

The employers want to effectively destroy the USS pension scheme, ending guaranteed pension benefits.

There is a very loud protest here and a ring of police as well as extra security outside the offices

but this is a peaceful if very angry protest

Those who have been paying into the fund for years feel that their money is being stolen - and they are right.

It's something that has happened in many companies and we don't have strong enough laws to protect

 pensions from unscrupulous managements.

After a lengthy potest the march continued along Threadneedle St to Bishopsgate and then

returing to Royal Exchange along Cornhill

The banners were lined up on the steps of the Royal Exchange for a photograph

and there were a couple of short speeche

Sean Wallis, UCU NEC member from University College London end's todays protest with the warning that the fight continues.
